[PRESS RELEASE] EDBF-Congress, 08th September 2025

European Dragon Boat Federation is pleased to announce the results of its recent presidential and
council elections. Anna Sokratous has been elected as the new President of the Federation,
marking a historic milestone as the first woman to hold this position since the organization’s
founding at international and continental level.
Upon her election, Anna Sokratous stated:
“It is a great honor to be entrusted with this responsibility. Dragon Boat is more than a sport – it is
a community that unites cultures, strengthens friendships and promotes teamwork across Europe.
I am committed to building on the Federation’s achievement, fostering inclusivity and leading our
sport to new heights.
My vision is simple yet ambitious: to expand Dragon Boat in Europe with Erasmus support,
empowering youth development while upholding transparency, fairness, and unity. I did not
expect to succeed as my opponent was Alan Van Caubergh, one of the highest officers of the IDBF
and president of the EDBF for three terms of office, until 2017. I am proud of the trust of the large
majority of the nations that voted for me. But now the elections are finished, and I want to be the
president of all the members, to make European Dragon boating stronger together.”

The remaining elected members of the council are as follows:
Maura Dezi – Treasurer
Ute Becker-Frenzel – Full Member Representative
Eduard Caramov – Chair of Youth Commission
Djordje Pavlovich – Chair of Competition & Technical Committee
Paola Pochesci – Chair of Women Commission
Michaela Scacchetti – Chair of Marketing & Media Commission
Dusko Spasovski – Chair of Medical & Sport Science Commission
Nations Representative: Cyprus, Germany, Italy, Serbia, Spain.
The Federation extends its gratitude to all candidates, members and athletes for their continued
dedication and passion for dragon boating.
