Pink Pilot in Prague

18 June 2008 - Dracice, the first Czech Breast Cancer Survivors dragon boat team, will be teaming up with the Czech Dragon Boat Association to hold a special Breast Cancer Survivors (BCS) race during the Prague Dragon Boat Festival, 21 June. This is a first in Czech Republic as BCS racing is a relatively new phenomenon and serves as a pilot for Europe.

BCS racing has been practiced in North America and Australia for a number of years already, starting out as a form of physical and emotional therapy for patients recovering from the disease. Early BCS races focused on the camaraderie, celebration of life and often had BC awareness goals. While BCS racing has mainly had a festival element, there are a number of teams who have become hooked on the sport and are very serious about competitive racing. As a result, the IDBF recently established a BCS commission to address the specific needs of both festival and competitive-level BCS racers.

The Prague BCS races will be part of the program of the Prague Dragon Boat Festival and Euro League races. Dracice invites BCS teams from throughout Europe to register for the event and looks forward to meeting fellow survivors and sport racers on 21 June.
