European Dragon Boat League Kicks off in Liverpool

16 May 2007 - Amathus Dragon Boat Club in Liverpool hosted the first European League event of the season on 6 May. UK turnout was strong with 21 crews participating as the EDBL event was also part of the British Dragon Boat Association League circuit. The only international entry for the EDBL event came from United Dragons of Alkmaar, The Netherlands.

Amathus won the day’s events, gaining 6 points for the EDBF League and United Dragons gained 4 points to start off the League tallies. The Dutch Dragons also participated in Amathus’ event as a guest team and came in second in the day’s overall results.

Amathus is planning on a reciprocal visit to the Netherlands to defend their League position, as they take on the Dutch teams and any international comers in the third EDBL race on 11 June in Alkmaar.

The next EDBF League Race will be held in Gyor, Hungary on 19 & 20 May. Gyor is a charming town situated between Vienna and Budapest and the site of Hungary’s national championships. For more information go to the Hungarian Dragon Boat Federation site at www.sarkanyhajozus.hu.

The European Dragon Boat Federation is a Member of the International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) and recognised by the IDBF as the specific Governing Body for Dragon Boating in Europe.
The IDBF is the world governing authority for Dragon Boat Sport and the Member International Federation of SportAccord (the General Association of International Sports Associations) specifically for Dragon Boating. SportAccord is an International Olympic Committee (IOC) recognised sports association.
The IDBF is also an International Federation recognised by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and is a Founder Member of the Association of International Paddle Sports Federation (AIPSF).
