Read article

November 2006 - The DDV German Dragon Boat Association held its annual German Dragonboat Championships 2006 during September 8-10 at Lake Uckersee in the City of Prenzlau, about 2 hours north of Berlin.

The 16th German DB Championships were held in conjunction with the 9th German DB Junior Championships, the 7th German DB Senior Championships and "The Best of Basic 2006" Races. While the German DB Championships are one of the oldest National Championships held continuously in Europe the "Basic Races" were introduced mainly to attract less experienced crews to regular dragonboat racing within the DDV.

During the 3 days of DB racing in beautiful weather 38 crews participated at the well prepared and organised races (over 200m/500m/1000m) by the DDV Member Club "PSV Uckermark e.V."

17 gold medals were up for grabs and the most successful crews winning most of them were with 5 gold medals each "Uckermark Dragons" and "Schwerin Uhus" followed with 2 gold medals each by "Berlin DB Company" and "Kurpfalz Dragons". For detailed racing results please see the DDV website www.drachenboot.de.

Of particular interest to dragonboat racers who want to participate in international races were the qualification races for the EDBF - ECCC 2007 (Aug) in St. Petersburg and the pre-qualification races for the IDBF - WC 2007 (Sep) in Sydney to be followed by final qualifications by April 2007.

To show the importance of these National German Dragon Boat Championships, the German Chancellor, Ms. Angela Merkel, took over the patronage and sent official greetings.
