The GB National Finals took place on Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th October 2006 at the National Water Sport Centre based at Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham. Conditions for the weekend were poor, with strong head winds causing the programme to become delayed throughout as boats struggled to hold position at the starting pontoons. At one point a reading was taken on the strength of the wind and it was reported to be gusting at gale force 7.

In spite of the blustery conditions, Liverpool-based Amathus DBC paddled away with the Victor Ladorum Trophy for the overall best team of the finals. Contributing to this "best of" victory was Amathus’ win in the 500m major open cup final (in what was an incredibly very close final, 0.01 hundredths of a sec between 1st & 2nd and only 0.12 hundredths of a sec between 1st & 3rd) and the Amathus Junior’s capture of the Under 18’s trophy.

Hertfordshire’s Batchworth Dragons won the 200m & 1000m Open Cups and London´s Kingston Royals took home the National Mixed and Women´s championship trophies.

Separate to these BDA National Championships, the BDA also runs a National League competition. This occurs through the season which lasts from April to September, with nine National League rounds that take place at various locations throughout the UK. Amathus Open & Amathus Bees are respective champions of the BDA´s Premier & Standard Leagues for 2006 and Amathus Open tied with Batchworth Dragons for 1st place in the Premier League.
