EDBF European Club Crew Championships Fast Approaching

20 July 2007
With 48 club crews expected from 13 European nations, the 2007 ECCC in St. Petersburg, Russia, is fast shaping up to be a well-attended event this summer. Expect some new faces on the block as dragon boat is gaining popularity in Eastern Europe along with familiar club crews from Germany, Italy and, of course, Russia’s own excellent teams.

2007 is the "Year of China" throughout Russia so the dragon boat races are expected to receive extra attention as part of the Russian celebrations. Victor Kisselev, Russian Dragon Boat Federation President says, "We would like to invite European athletes and other citizens to visit us in the Pearl of European and Russian culture." With more than 200 museums and 100 theaters and concert halls, St. Petersburg should provide visitors with plenty to experience both on and off the water.

Crews from Moldova, Estonia and Belorussia are expected to make their premier on the European scene at the St. Petersburg event. After a period of inactivity on the European db scene, clubs are also expected from Norway and Finland. Czech Republic, Poland and Ukraine have all entered several clubs each in the competition. The club, Masters International, will give some English cheer to the scene while Hungary’s top club, Raba Dragons, will also be racing.

In addition to the European Club Crew Championship, this year the first European Universities Championship and the 2nd European Corporate and Community Championships will be taking place. For the under-14´s Danone is sponsoring the Danone Junior Dragon Boat Cup which will be run in smaller 912 spec boats.

Dear friends of the Dragon Boat Community of Europe, to be a “community” means to be a team, to be friends, to know each other and to support each other. In my visit in Armenia I met people that love our sport, that want to grow, that want to develop also the social part with a specific adaptive dragon boat project. Last week end some Armenian Athlets were in Spain and next Monday ArmDBF will enter the EDBF EC 2018 in Brandenburg. Happy birthday to the President of the Armenian Dragon Boat Federation, Makar Sargsyan, today 32 year old and my best wishes to continue in his commitment for our sport. #newgenerations Claudio Schermi EDBF President

Berlino - meeting with the Organizing Committee of the next European Nations Championships in Brandenburg from 23 to 26th August. With me Slawek Borucki, in his key role within our sport. He is responsible for registration, race program and EDBF web site. Ute Becker and Gitta Weber are doing a great job and all details and criticism are under control. A lot of provisional Entries and other are expected very soon. Looking forward to see in Brandenburg all the top Paddlers of the dragon boat community of Europe. Following the request received we will reconsider the possibility to add the class open in Senior C standard boat. Claudio Schermi EDBF President
