Charity Dragonboat Race in France

25 May 2008
"Paddle for Water" is a dragon boat race for charity to be held on 13 September in Strasbourg, France. Organized by the 2009 Executive MBA class of ESSEC (Paris) and Mannheim Business Schools, proceeds from the race will go to PlayPumps International, a charity that provides access to clean water to millions of people in Africa.

"Paddle for Water" is open for dragon boat clubs and novices alike and is an excellent opportunity for companies to demonstrate corporate social responsibility and reinforce team spirit.

The race will be held on Baggersee lake - just south of Strasbourg´s picturesque city center. A premiere: "Paddle for Water" is the first dragon boat race to take place in Strasbourg. On the beach of the lake, there will be lots of entertainment, food and exciting activities for the kids!

Teams from throughout Europe are invited to Strasbourg for a great day of paddling... for sports, for fun and for water! For more information, please visit www.paddleforwater.org or contact Peter van der Meulen at pavdmatkabelmail.de.

Today at the SportAccord was the day of the AIMS Annual General Assembly. The IDBF is an AIMS Member but many people of the dragon boat community of Europe don’t know about AIMS and the important role of this organization within the IOC and the GAISF. I attended the Assembly together with Alan Van Caubergh and Mike Thomas IDBF President. We strongly support AIMS efforts to make all GAISF members to be also automatically IOC recognized. SportAccord started today with the wishes of the most important representatives of the sport worldwide. The ARISF President Raffaele Chiulli, a good friend of Dragon Boat (he join us in Rome 2016 and he paddle in 2017), the ASOIF President Francesco Ricci Bitti and the GAISF President Patrick Baumann. And the video speech of Thomas Bach, IOC President. He will arrive tomorrow. Claudio Schermi EDBF President

Many friends of the dragon boat community of Europe asked me about SportAccord. I will try in this days to explain how important it is for the dragon boat family to be “where the sport meets”. Claudio Schermi EDBF President
