185 meter sees Prince Williams crew win by a dragons head!

08 July 2011 -

Dalvay Lake, Prince Edward Island, Canada
The most famous Dragon Boaters in the world, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and his Wife, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge or just Wills and Kate as the worlds media knows them, showed their paddling skills, when they took to the water in a two boat race, on 4th July 2011, during their on-going Tour of Canada.

William Paddling

The Royal couple were joined in their boats by members of Dragon Boat Canadas National Team; local sports men and women and personalities from the PEI community, including the Provinces Premier, Robert Ghiz and his Wife, also named Kate. Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, looked much more relaxed as she started to paddle with the crew, after having first tried Helming the boat on the way from the loading area to the Start Line but Wills looked a little more apprehensive as he practised paddling.

With IDBF Executive President, Mike Haslam starting the race and with Steve Gallant and Albert McDonald, the Race Organisers, from Dragonboat East, Nova Scotia, Helming the boats, the Royal Dash of 185m, was under the control of IDBF officials, from Start to Finish! Stephen Gallant having passed his IDBF Race Officials Assessment during the DBC National Championships in Welland.

In a close race Prince Williams crew reached the Finish Line first, by a Dragons Head and Kates crew had to settle for second place. A consolation hug from Wills was graciously accepted by Kate before a victory bottle of Champers was handed to the Prince, who said there is no chivalry in sport, so thanks very much !

It is that time of year for some teams when we awaken the dragon and hit the water with a splash.

ECCC 2017 is hotting up to be one hell of an event! Currently 30 clubs registered in the Standard Boat Competition and 29 clubs registered in the Small Boat Competition. We are aware that there will be more entries over the next week as everyone gets to grips with the new registration process. This will definitely be THE event of the year to be at in Europe.

All EDBF Governing Federations have now received the necessary passwords to register on the on-line registration system, so any club crew wishing to take part must contact their own Federation who will in turn issue the necessary passwords. The entries are currently flooding in for this event which is being held in the picturesque town of Divonne-les-Bains, France. Miss it! Miss Out!

European Dragon Boat Federation The IDBF have said "Due to the many concerns received from Nations who have Junior crews participate but would not be able to due to the October dates, an alternative venue late July or August is being sought. This will be for the Junior and U24 Racing Classes only. The delay was due to seeking assurances of water quality and depth, which have now been received."

ECCC 2017 - PLEASE NOTE Please be advised that the EDBF online registration system for the ECCC 2017 is not currently working. Slawek has been improving the system to allow the Governing Federations to issue passwords to their club crews in order that you can validate their entries. Please be patient as our IT expert does this work for us on a voluntary basis which we are greatly appreciative of. It is expected that the system will be fully operational by 15th February 2017. This will allow two weeks for everyone to upload their entries before the first deadline date. I would be most grateful if you would ensure that your club crews know about this issue.
