EDBF Extraordinary General Assembly report

13 November 2015 -
The EDBF members met at an Extraordinary General Assembly in Berlin on the weekend of 7th and 8th November 2015 to approve a major revision to the EDBF Statutes to bring them in line with the IDBF Statutes and to elect new officers and representatives to the EDBF Council.

Major changes to the Statutes include changes to the Council (term limits, changes in composition and number of representatives), changes to quorum requirements (to make it easier to get a voting quorum and act on business of the EDBF) and changes in membership procedures (aligning IDBF/EDBF membership and bringing it in line with other continental federations).

Results of the election of officers:

  • President: Alan van Caubergh (NLD); serving until 2017.
  • Vice Presidents: Ute Becker-Frenzel (GER), Kim Beckwith (NLD), Peter Jarosi (HUN), Petr Klima (CZE); serving until 2019.
  • Secretary General: Julie Doyle (IRL); serving until 2019.
  • Treasurer: Natalia Kravtsova (UKR); serving until 2017.

The position of President of Honour was added to the Board and Mike Haslam was elected to the position unanimously.

Under the new Statutes, Commission Chairholders will now become elected positions. Nominations for those positions will be accepted from national federations for election at the Annual Congress to be held in Rome in 2016 in conjunction with the European Nations Championship. If you are interested in becoming a commission chairholder, please contact your national federation to be nominated.

It is that time of year for some teams when we awaken the dragon and hit the water with a splash.

ECCC 2017 is hotting up to be one hell of an event! Currently 30 clubs registered in the Standard Boat Competition and 29 clubs registered in the Small Boat Competition. We are aware that there will be more entries over the next week as everyone gets to grips with the new registration process. This will definitely be THE event of the year to be at in Europe.

17th EDBF European Club Crew Championships 2017 A reminder that the Provisional Entry deadline is 28th February 2017. All EDBF Governing Federations have now received the necessary passwords to register on the on-line registration system, so any club crew wishing to take part must contact their own Federation who will in turn issue the necessary passwords. The entries are currently flooding in for this event which is being held in the picturesque town of Divonne-les-Bains, France. Miss it! Miss Out!

Thanks to Otto Duinham from the Dutch Dragon Boat Federation for sending us some photos from Dragon Trek, a tug-a-dragon event organized by Odysseus Dragons from Alkmaar, in The Netherlands over the weekend. 25 teams participated in the event with River Dragons from Gorinchem winning the open class and The Dutch Dragons from Zoetermeer winning in the mixed class.

European Dragon Boat Federation The IDBF have said "Due to the many concerns received from Nations who have Junior crews participate but would not be able to due to the October dates, an alternative venue late July or August is being sought. This will be for the Junior and U24 Racing Classes only. The delay was due to seeking assurances of water quality and depth, which have now been received."

ECCC 2017 - PLEASE NOTE Please be advised that the EDBF online registration system for the ECCC 2017 is not currently working. Slawek has been improving the system to allow the Governing Federations to issue passwords to their club crews in order that you can validate their entries. Please be patient as our IT expert does this work for us on a voluntary basis which we are greatly appreciative of. It is expected that the system will be fully operational by 15th February 2017. This will allow two weeks for everyone to upload their entries before the first deadline date. I would be most grateful if you would ensure that your club crews know about this issue.
