Change of venue 2015 EDBF Club Crew Championships
Dear EDBF Dragon Boat Friends,
On 15 December the Hungarian Dragon Boat Federation officially withdrew from hosting the 16th EDBF European Club Crew Championships which were to be held in Budapest in 2015. Over the past week the President of the EDBF, Mike Haslam, and the Chairman of the EDBF, Alan van Caubergh have been busy trying to find an alternative location. No other bids had been received for 2015 since the Hungarian proposal was so strong and the championships the Hungarians have hosted have been well-received by the EDBF paddlers.
However, there is some very good news on the horizon: both France and Italy have stepped up with an offer to host the Club Crew Championships. We are very grateful to both nations´ dragon boat federations for their willingness to pull this together at this relatively late date and very much appreciate the teamwork and dedication that both host nations´ representatives are showing. Right now we are awaiting finalization of some details before confirming the location and dates but to give you a sneak-preview we are looking at:
- Dionne-les-Bains on the French-Swiss border
- Ravenna, the location of the recent IDBF WCCC
- Lignano, Italy in conjunction with the CSIT World Sports Games
We are hoping to get a final confirmation on location very soon, but of course with the holidays upon us and many permissions needed from governmental organizations which are closed for the holidays, the details are going to have to wait just a bit longer.
(By the way, with so much potentially happening in Italy this year, please do not confuse the so-called "European Dragon Boat Championships" in Aronzo, Italy this coming summer for the genuine thing. The Aronzo event is a European Canoe Association dragon boat championships, and not the 16th EDBF championships.)
In the meanwhile, on behalf of the EDBF Executive Committee, I wish you a very happy holiday season and a winning New Year!
Yours in sport,
Kimberly M. Beckwith, MA
